BOROBUDUR

A 9th-century Mahayana, Buddhist, Monument near Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

·       The monument comprises six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672  panels and 504 Buddha statues.

·       A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside perforated stupa.

·       The monument is both a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage.

·       The journey for pilgrims begins at the base of the monument.

EXAMPLE OF MANDALA 
   A Sanskrit word that mean is "circle". In the hindu and buddhist religious traditions, their sacred art often takes a mandala form.

MANDALA
      The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandala is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point.  Each gate is in the shape of a T.  These mandala, concentric diagrams, have spiritual and ritual significance in both Buddhism and hinduism. 

In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction.
